Martyrs
A Martyr is a person who is killed because of their religious beliefs. Saint Paul's vision and commitment to Christianity and his faith in God became a problem to many Jews which were tolerated while on the other hand Christians were not. Many Christian martyrs suffered cruel and torturous deaths like stoning, crucifixion and burning at the stake.
The first Christian martyr was Saint Stephan as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles (6:8-8:3) . Saul- who later became Paul, was present at the stoning of Stephan and he watched over the cloaks of the people who were stoning Stephen.
